Tazers Take Metro, Almost

In 2000, Walt Disney released the hit movie, 'Remember the Titans'. The movie was motivational in several areas, but one scene in particular rises above the rest. After taking several hits from their opposition, the Titans huddle together and revamp their strategy. While the opposition stands on the sideline wondering what the Titans are up to, they can sense the tide of the game was about to change. They still believed the game was theirs for the taking. The same could be said for Tuesday's game against Metro.

From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer, Metro had their hands full. Full of Tazers that is. Although Metro pulled to an early lead of 10, the Tazers battled back on key offensive moves. The shooting of Brayden Monsen combined with the assists of Alex Proctor help orchestrate the offense Metro did nothing to control. On the defensive end, Dayon Goodman, Kevin Graf, Jaren Jones and Josh Hogan provided power under the hoop in the form of block shots and rebounds. Mitch Johnson played key defense and kept his focus on shutting down Metro's outside shooting abilities. With 5.1 seconds to go before the half, the Tazers were down by 3, Graf inbounded the ball to Nick Schindler. At half court Schindler lobed the ball up as the clock ran out and as they say, "nothing but net." All Metro could do was stand there on the sidelines, watching, dazed and confused. Their bench shaking their heads. Unbelieveable.

In the third quarter Metro took an early lead of 10 points again. But the Tazers did not back down changing rotations and battling back to within 7, then 5, then 2. Foul calls against the Tazers sent Metro to the line three times. Defense continued to be an issue for the Tazers as Metro ran fast break after fast break. With 1:31 to go in regulation, a three point shot by Monsen, technical free-throws and a one hand shot by Proctor brought the Tazers score to within 6 points. Time eventually ran out as Metro stalled. Final score 49-45 Metro.

Remember SL Metro? Not even. Last night's game was respectfully known as, 'Remember the Tazers!"
